Hydroplane Racing Chronicled; Tacoma Maritime Fest

Long before professional baseball, basketball, and football arrived in Seattle, sports fans embraced professional boat racing. Hydroplane racing burst onto the Emerald City scene in 1950, and throughout the decade, thousands of fans flocked to Lake Washington to watch classic races between Seattleā€™s Slo-mo-shun boats and a fleet of East Coast challengers. Those days are chronicled in "Hydroplane Racing in Seattle," authored by David Williams and published by the Hydroplane & Raceboat Museum. The book is available for purchase at the museum gift shop or online.

The Commencement Bay Maritime Fest last weekend in Tacoma was described in an article by the Tacoma News Tribune.
